The release date for Pokémon Legends: Z-A is finally confirmed. The game will arrive on October 16. It will be available for both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2.
This is the next big Pokémon game after Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which was released in 2022. This time, the game is set in Lumiose City, and it brings back Mega Evolutions. The box art already shows some Mega-Evolved Pokémon, so fans can expect them to play a big role in the game.
The Switch 2 edition of the game will offer better graphics and smoother frame rates. If you buy the regular version on Switch, you can upgrade to the Switch 2 edition for $10. The upgrade will be available through the Nintendo eShop or My Nintendo Store.
Digital pre-orders for the game will start on June 5.
A new Pokémon Presents livestream is also coming on July 22. This will probably give us more details about the game, including new Pokémon and gameplay features. The last Pokémon Presents, held in February, showed off the three starter Pokémon and the new real-time combat system.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is launching in October, so it is unlikely that Nintendo will release another major title like Metroid Prime 4 in the same month. Nintendo usually spreads out its big games across the year. For now, the only other major game confirmed is Donkey Kong Bananza, which comes out on July 17.
More details about Nintendo’s 2025 plans may come in the next Nintendo Direct, which could happen in June.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is shaping up to be a major release for Nintendo this year. With Mega Evolutions, a fresh setting, and better performance on Switch 2, fans have a lot to look forward to.
