X (formerly Twitter) gas made its AI chatbot, Grok, available for free to all users. However, the feee version comes with restrictions such as a limit of 10 messages every two hours and availability only to accounts older than seven days. The company initially tested the free version in regions like New Zealand before making it available to all users.
Grok was initially announced last year to offer AI chatbot within X ecosystem. Previously, it was only available for premium users. However, the company wants to introduce Grok to all users with this free version. If users like it, they can subscribe to X premium for unrestricted X experience.

Like standalone tools like ChatGPT, Grok has real-time access to public user posts. It gives Grok the ability to generate responses informed by ongoing conversations on X. It also offers a unique and dynamic interaction. The tool also has ability to generate images.

Now that Grok is freely available, it will compete with already-free chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Anthropic’s Claude. But limited access to Grok won’t make it much beneficial as compared to rivals.
xAI is the company behind Grok. It recently raised $6 billion in latest funding round and is also planning to bring standalone app for Grok.
