Are Japan’s E10 Shinkansen Next-Generation Trains?

As per the government, the Shinkansen, a network of high-speed railway lines in Japan, is using E5 trains. E10 are slated to be the next generation trains, which are safer and faster.

The Railways, in its statement, said that to boost India-Japan relations, the Japanese government has agreed to introduce E10 Shinkansen trains in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train project.

The E10 trains will be introduced simultaneously in both countries.

Officials said the entire 508-km corridor is being built using Japanese Shinkansen technology. The Ministry added that the construction of 15 river bridges has been completed, while work on four more is nearing completion.

Out of 12 stations, Railways have completed work on five stations and three more are now reaching completion.

“The station at BKC is an engineering marvel. The station will be located 32.5 m below ground, and the foundation is designed to support the construction of a 95 m high building above ground,” the Ministry said.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) success will lay foundation for future high-speed bullet train corridors in the country. Future corridors such as Delhi to Howrah are also under consideration.
