Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A woman was arrested along with her brother-in-law (elder sister’s husband and a dismissed policeman) and another man for a theft in her live-in partner’s flat in Shubhlabh Prime building under Palasia police station jurisdiction, police said on Sunday. The woman, who was also the complainant in the theft case, had allegedly hatched the plan because she doubted her live-in-partner’s fidelity and had an eye on his money as she felt insecure.

As per the plan, her brother-in-law and his friend had reached the flat wearing burqas to mislead the police. DCP (zone-3) Hansraj Singh informed media persons that Shivali Jadoun, a resident of Shubhlabh Prime building, had lodged a complaint on March 13 that unidentified thieves targeted her flat and managed to flee with cash and valuables worth Rs 1.25 crore from there. She had gone to drop her child to school and came to know about the theft when she returned, she said.

The thieves entered the house after opening the lock with a key, so the police suspected someone close to the complainant. During the investigation, the police checked the CCTV camera footage and found that the thieves were in burqas. About 1,000 CCTVs of the area were examined and cops found that the two accused in burqa fled from the spot on a blue scooter. A person in a white car also helped the accused. When the police checked the people associated with Shivali’s live-in partner Ankush Kumar, it was found that the same car was owned by Shivali’s brother-in-law Hirabahadur alias Hira Thapa. The police tried to contact Hira Thapa but his mobile phone was switched off.

The team of Palasia police station in charge Manish Mishra somehow managed to arrest Hira Thapa and his aide Pintu Mehra from near Bengali Square. They were allegedly fleeing from the city in the car. During the search, a trolley bag and hand bag were recovered from the car with Rs 79.50 lakh in cash and gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh. On interrogation, Thapa allegedly admitted to having conspired with his sister-in-law Shivali Jadoun to commit the theft. The interrogation also revealed that Thapa and Shivali had sent goons to attack the latter’s live-in partner Ankush Kumar in hospital a few days prior to the theft. Thapa, Shivali and Pintu were arrested and search was on for one Praveen as he also helped the accused, said police. The role of Thapa’s wife (Shivali’s sister) is also being investigated.

Accused stole cash, valuables worth crores in 5 minutes

According to Palasia police station in charge Mishra, Shivali suspected that her live-in partner Ankush was in contact with another woman, so she had prepared the plan of theft. She roped in her brother-in-law Thapa and explained to him to steal cash from the almirah at her place. Police said that as per the plan, she had kept the key of her flat under a shoe outside the flat. She left at around 6.35 AM.

Thapa and his accomplice Pintu entered at around 6.38 AM, using the key and came out at around 6.43 AM. They were in burqas so it was a tough job for the police to identify them. Mishra further said that after Thapa’s father passed away, he got a job in the police department on compassionate grounds but he was booked in some criminal cases so he was later dismissed in 2004.
