Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A male tiger killed a sub-adult tigress in Pench Tiger Reserve on Monday evening. It even consumed some parts of the victim.
Sources in the Reserve said that two forest employees heard two felines fighting at the Alikkatta Grass Ground area situated in compartment number 585 of the Karmajhiri circle jungle area.
Later, they saw one feline dragging another into the jungle area.
Finding it unsafe to venture into the jungle without protection, the employees informed their seniors about the incident.
When contacted, Deputy Director of Pench Tiger Reserve, Rajnesh Singh, said that the tiger killed the sub-adult tigress of around eleven to twelve months as it wanted to mate with the latter’s mother.
The carcass could not be retrieved on Monday evening. An operation was launched on Tuesday to recover the body. After an autopsy, the body was burnt as per protocol.
