Dussehra 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were scheduled to attend Dussehra celebrations in separate events in Delhi but the programs of both leaders were cancelled due to heavy rains in the national capital on Friday.

Why PM Modi, Amit skipped Dussehra celebrations?

According to officials, PM Modi was planned to attend the Indraprastha Extension Ramlila in East Delhi, amid heightened security cover in the area, while Amit Shah was scheduled to visit attend the Keshav Ramlila in Pitampura.

However, both events were canceled as heavy rains lashed the Delhi-NCR region, leading to cancellation of Ravana Dahan ceremonies. Rains spoiled the grand Dussehra event planned at the Indraprastha Ramlila Maidan as the Ravana effigy was soaked due to the heavy downpour, forcing organizers to cancel the event.

How rain dampened Dussehra festivities in Delhi?

Social media visuals from parts of Delhi and adjacent NCR cities like Noida and Gururgam, showed how rain played spoilsport in Dussehra celebrations as Ravana effigies fell over and broke into pieces at various places, while revelers who had arrived to witnessed the effigy burning were drenched, and sought cover from the heavy downpour.

Meanwhile, amid the heavy rain, President Droupadi Murmu attended Dussehra celebrations at the Red Fort, where she hailed the Indian armed forces’ Operation Sindoor triumph over Pakistan as a “decisive victory of humanity over the Ravana of terrorism.”

“When the demon of terrorism strikes against humanity, it becomes necessary to kill it. Operation Sindoor is a symbol of victory for humanity against the Ravana of terrorism, and we salute our soldiers for this,” Murmu said.

Symbolically drawing a bow to mark the “Ravan Dahan” at Madhavdas Park in the Red Fort, the President said the festival has always symbolised the triumph of good over evil, humility over arrogance and love over hatred. The event was organised by the Dharmic Ramlila Committee.
