The Delhi BJP chief denied reports that the CM was slapped or a stone was pelted at her. Such incidents in politics are unacceptable, he said, adding that ‘Jan Sunwai’ will continue.
Delhi CM attacked: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked during a ‘Jan Sunwai’ programme at her camp office in Civil Lines on Wednesday morning. According to a senior police officer, the accused Rajesh Sakriya has been detained, and he is being interrogated.
Rajesh Sakriya, originally from Rajkot in Gujarat. Delhi Police reached out to his family, and his mother, Bhanu, has told the media that Rajesh is a dog lover and was upset over the Supreme Court’s recent ruling to round up stray dogs in Delhi NCR and shift them to shelters.
What the attacker’s mother said?
The mother of the attacker has claimed that her son is unstable. “My son loves dogs. He was angry after the Supreme Court’s order against stray dogs. And left for Delhi soon after. We don’t know anything else,” Sakriya’s mother Bhanu told the media. Police is also investigating his criminal history.
An eyewitness, who was present at ‘Jan Sunwai’, said, “We all were sitting. A person whose turn came sat with the CM… he was speaking with the CM and suddenly he attacked her. We heard a loud sound. And immediately the police detained the person.”
How the incident unfolded?
Giving an account about the incident, Delhi BJP president Virendraa Sachdeva said, “During Jan Sunvai this morning, CM was speaking with the public like she always does. A man approached her, presented some paper and suddenly held her hand while trying to pull her towards him. During this, there was a little jostling…People nabbed him. Who is he, and all other details are being investigated by the Police…The CM is stable. Doctors have examined her. I have met her, she is a strong woman…It seems that she suffered a light blow to her head…The slap or stone-throwing stories are fabricated…Such incidents in politics are condemnable…Jan Sunvai will continue. CM is resting right now but she has said that she will not cancel her programs.”
