President Donald Trump said Monday he wants the Alcatraz prison reopened because it’s a powerful symbol of law and order.

“It represents something very strong, very powerful in terms of law and order. Our country needs law and order,” Trump said when a reporter asked him to explain how he decided to call for the reopening of the notorious prison off the coast of San Francisco.

Trump announced on social media on Sunday night that he was directing the government to reopen and expand Alcatraz to house the most ruthless and violent offenders.
