Gov. Wes Moore is set to speak to the people of Maryland during his State of the State address at the State House in Annapolis on Wednesday.

Moore, who is the first Black governor in the state’s history and the third Black governor in U.S. history, is expected to address issues facing Marylanders, such as utility costs, public safety, education and the state budget.

The speech comes days after Moore announced that he had been uninvited from the National Governors Association dinner, an annual event at the White House that traditionally hosted both Democratic and Republican governors. This year, President Donald Trump invited only Republicans to the event.

“My peers, both Democrats and Republicans, selected me to serve as the vice chair of the NGA, another reason why it’s hard not to see this decision as another example of blatant disrespect and a snub to the spirit of bipartisan federal-state partnership,” Moore wrote in a social media post.

The association said in a statement that it was “disappointed in the administration’s decision to make it a partisan occasion this year.” On Tuesday, the Associated Press reported the NGA will no longer hold a formal meeting with Trump when its members gather in the nation’s capital later this month.

Moore and Trump have sparred in recent months over the White House’s threats to deploy National Guard troops to Democratic-led cities.

“Wes Moore’s record on Crime is a very bad one, unless he fudges his figures on crime like many of the other ‘Blue States’ are doing,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post in August. “But if Wes Moore needs help, like Gavin Newscum did in L.A., I will send in the ‘troops,’ which is being done in nearby DC, and quickly clean up the Crime.”

Wednesday’s speech will be Moore’s fourth State of the State address as governor. He announced last September that he would be running for reelection.
