Kannada actress Ramya recently got emotional as she discussed her mental health struggles during a panel on women in cinema at the Bengaluru International Film Festival. The actress and former Lok Sabha member, known for her outspoken nature, teared up when questioned by the media about her personal experiences with mental health.

Fighting back tears, Ramya said, “You guys are going to make me cry. After I lost my father (RT Narayan) in 2013, I was completely devastated. It was a period of grief, and I just couldn’t cope with the loss. I was really struggling.”

She also revealed that the practice of Vipassana meditation helped her cope with stress. Ramya also drew parallels to fellow actress Deepika Padukone, who has been vocal about her own mental health journey.

The actress didn’t shy away from addressing the darker side of social media, opening up about how trolling can exacerbate mental health issues, especially for women. “Women are soft targets. Those who troll must understand the mental turmoil women go through,” she said.

Divya is a former Lok Sabha MP from Karnataka. She began her acting career in 2003 and has starred in nearly 40 movies. in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu.

She joined Congress in 2012 as a member of its youth wing. In 2017, the actress was appointed as the national head of Congress’s digital team.

Meanwhile, on the film front, she was last seen in Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare in which she had a cameo appearance. According to media reports, Ramya will next be seen in the film Uttarakhanda. The shooting of the film began in April 2024.
