UP to pioneer AI-powered road safety with ITI Ltd and US tech firm mLogica | Representational Image
Lucknow: In a significant push towards tech enabled governance, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved Uttar Pradesh’s first AI-based road safety project. Marking a national first, the initiative will be implemented by state-run ITI Ltd and US-based tech firm mLogica without any financial assistance from the central government.
With a ₹10 crore provision in the state’s 2025–26 budget, the administration aims to use artificial intelligence and big data analytics to modernize road safety, traffic enforcement, and transport documentation.
The six-week proof-of-concept phase will integrate multiple data points accident logs, vehicle telematics, road infrastructure, weather conditions, and driver history to identify accident-prone zones, predict high-risk areas, and create real time dashboards for decision makers.
Post pilot, the AI system will expand to streamline services like the faceless license permit system, e-challan, revenue tracking, and integration with Vahan-Sarathi platforms. Predictive violation alerts, automated document verification, and real-time fraud detection will become standard across departments.
Transport Commissioner Brajesh Narayan Singh confirmed that implementation has already begun. ITI and mLogica are currently collaborating with the department’s IT and enforcement wings to build a scalable system that maintains data privacy, legal compliance, and cybersecurity.
Singh highlighted that the initiative reinforces the state’s push for transparency, accident reduction, and AI-powered decision-making in public services. “Our goal is to expand this model across transport operations and set a benchmark for data-driven governance,” he said.
