‘They Can Take Their Dead Economies Down Together’: US President Donald Trump Slams India-Russia Ties After 25% Tariff Hike | File Image
Washington: A day after imposing a steep 25% tariff on Indian imports, US President Donald Trump launched a sharp attack on India’s trade practices and its relationship with Russia. In a post on Truth Social on July 31, Trump dismissed any diplomatic concern over New Delhi’s ties with Moscow, saying, “I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care.” The remarks come amid rising global unease over Trump’s increasingly combative trade policy in the lead-up to the 2026 US elections.

Taking aim at India’s tariff regime, Trump claimed the US has done “very little business” with India, blaming it on what he described as “very high” import duties. “Their Tariffs are too high, among the highest in the World,” he wrote. He also turned his ire towards former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, calling him a “failed” leader and warning him to “watch his words”. In the same post, Trump added, “He’s entering very dangerous territory.”
