A fire broke out on Tuesday morning, 3rd March, at an oil storage area in the Fujairah emirate after debris from an intercepted drone fell inside the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone (FOIZ). The incident occurred on Day 4 of the ongoing fighting between the United States and Iran.

As per the statement released by the Fujairah media office, a drone was intercepted by air defence systems, but some of the falling debris landed in the oil storage and trading area, leading to a fire. Thick smoke was seen rising from the refinery area, which is one of the major oil storage and export centres in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)

Officials said emergency teams reached the site quickly and managed to control the fire. No injuries were reported, and authorities confirmed that normal operations in the area have resumed. They also urged residents and media outlets to rely only on official updates and avoid spreading unverified information.

Videos shared on social media showed thick plumes of smoke rising from the oil depot. People were also seen gathering around to witness the situation from a safe distance. However, the authenticity of these videos could not be confirmed independently verified.

The Fujairah Oil Industry Zone is situated on the eastern coast of the UAE along the Arabian Sea. It plays a key role in global energy trade because it allows oil tankers to operate without passing directly through the Strait of Hormuz. This is a major shipping route for the export of energy products from the Middle East.

The fire in Fujairah comes at a time when the energy infrastructure in the Middle East is facing attacks. A fuel tank in the Duqm port in Oman was also targeted in a drone attack. Furthermore, Qatar Energy suspended production at two facilities following similar incidents. These rising tensions have affected energy supplies and caused energy prices in Europe to rise.
