US: Immigration officer fatally shoots woman in Minneapolis, video goes viral

In a disturbing incident, a 37-year-old woman was shot dead by an  Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis, United States, on Wednesday morning around 10:25 am (7th January, local time). The entire incident was captured on camera by eyewitnesses, and the videos are going viral on social media.

The chilling visuals of the incident show the victim, Renee Nicole Good, sitting inside an SUV stopped in the middle of a road as two officials got out of their vehicle and walked to her car. One of the officials asked her to come out of the car and aggressively pulled at the door of the SUV to open it while the other one stood behind him. A third official stood in front of the SUV.

The woman slowly reversed the car and then pulled forward, apparently trying to drive away. As the car moved forward, the officer standing in front of the car jumped aside and fired three shots at her through the car window. The fatal shots hit her, and she lost control of the vehicle, which veered in a zigzag manner up to a short distance before colliding with a pole. The Minneapolis chief of police said that the victim was taken to Hennepin County Medical Centre, where she was pronounced dead.

The Department of Homeland Security said that the victim was a “violent rioter” who tried to run over Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary, Dept of Homeland Security, said that the woman “weaponised” her vehicle to block the ICE officers, who were conducting ” targeted operations” in Minneapolis.

“Today, ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers, and one of these violent rioters weaponised her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism. An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots. He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers. The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased. The ICE officers who were hurt are expected to make full recoveries. This is the direct consequence of constant attacks and demonisation of our officers by sanctuary politicians who fuel and encourage rampant assaults on our law enforcement. These men and women who are simply enforcing the law on the books are facing 1,300% increase in assaults against them and an 8,000% increase in death threats,” McLaughlin said in a post on X Wednesday.

Trump justifies the shooting

Commenting on the incident, US President Donald Trump said that it was “a horrible thing to watch” and added that the woman was a “professional agitator.” “I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self-defence,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

An FBI investigation is currently underway in the case.
