The pre-season match between Real Betis and Serie A side Como turned into a brawl as tensions boiled over right after the halftime whistle. The clash between Pablo Fornals of Betis and Como’s Massimo Perrone escalated into a full-blown brawl involving multiple players, with punches being thrown as players from both sides piled in.
One particularly bizarre moment saw Betis striker Cucho Hernández attempt to join the fray with dramatic effect only to accidentally strike his own teammate, Natan, instead of a Como player.
Did players receive punishment?
Despite the altercation, Fornals escaped punishment, while Perrone was shown a red card for his role in the scuffle.
Defender Hector Bellerin’s increasingly animated protests to the official landed him in hot water, as he was also given his marching orders by the referee at the Estadio Municipal de La Linea de la Concepcion.
However, both clubs could face retrospective action, with several players such as Hector Bellerín, Fornals, and Cucho now at risk of suspension heading into the new season.
Real Betis vs Como match ends in stalemate
Como had the upper hand in the first half thanks to goals from Diao and Da Cunha. However, Betis rallied in the second half with goals from Isco and Junior Firpo to level the score. However COmo had the last laugh with Azon scorign the winning goal in the injury time before the final whistle.
