Patna: RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Monday asserted that those hurling abuses against the party president and his father Lalu Prasad would bestow Bharat Ratna on him one day.
Addressing a rally at Sonbarsa in Sitamarhi district to mark the 37th death anniversary of former chief minister Karpoori Thakur, Tejashwi said that Lalu would be honoured with Bharat Ratna one day as the same people who were abusing him presently would bestow the country`s highest civilian award on him one day.
Making a comparison between his father and veteran socialist leader Thakur, the RJD leader claimed that those (BJP) who once used to abuse Thakur bestowed Bharat Ratna on him. “Like Thakur, Lalu also brought change in the society,” he remarked while obliquely referring to his father`s social justice plank. He also appealed to the people to vote for his party to solve problems like migration and unemployment. “We are following the path shown by Thakur and we appeal to the youth to do the same,” he added.
In a signal to his party`s allies including Congress and also his party leaders and workers, the RJD leader contended that there were only 243 seats. He said that this time, tickets would not be given on the insistence of any leader but candidates would be chosen on the basis how well they were connected with the people.
Targeting chief minister Nitish Kumar and his government, the former deputy chief minister appealed to the people to remove the old model government and get a new model government. “Nitish has become a ‘pakadua’ (caged) CM. He is tired and has now become a BJP`s puppet. He is not fit to continue on the post of CM,” he alleged.
