New Delhi: The Indian Army has made its crucial 155mm Sharang artillery gun fully war-ready. This work was done indigenously at the 506 Army Base Workshop. The gun underwent a complete major overhaul (repair and refurbishment), significantly increasing its power, reliability, and combat readiness.

What Happened In The Overhaul?

The gun underwent a thorough technical inspection. Precise repairs and refurbishment were carried out on key components, such as gun barrel, recoil mechanism, fire control components, This process extended the gun’s lifespan and ensured accuracy and robustness even during prolonged continuous firing.

How Powerful Is The Sharang Gun?

The Sharang gun is an upgraded version of the old Bofors gun. Its main features include a 155mm caliber gun, range of more than 35 km, capability for rapid and accurate firing, can fire high-explosive and specialized shells, inflict deep and lethal impact on the enemy.

It performs well in both high-altitude areas and normal terrain. This gun is very important in the Indian Army’s artillery due to its proven accuracy and robustness.

It Played Major Role In Operation Sindoor
