New Delhi: The investigation into the car bomb blast near the Red Fort in Delhi has made a major revelation. According to a report by news channel NDTV, the NIA investigation revealed that this was not just an accidental blast, but part of a serial blast plan. It has now come to light that the plot for this attack had been underway since 2023, and this white-collar module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed carried out the attack.

Preparing for the attack for the past two years

According to an NDTV report, during interrogation, the accused, Dr Muzammil Shakeel, revealed that he had been purchasing explosives and necessary chemicals for the past two years. His job was to procure urea, ammonium nitrate, and other explosive materials. Muzammil purchased 26 quintals of NPK fertiliser from Gurugram and Nuh for Rs 3 lakh. Additionally, various chemicals and electronic components were purchased from Nuh, and wires, remotes, and other devices from Faridabad. He even bought a deep freezer to store the chemicals. Meanwhile, his accomplice and suicide bomber, Umar Mohammad, processed the fertiliser and mixed the chemicals. Investigations also recovered a flour mill used to grind the urea.

The terrorist module funded the plan itself

It has also emerged that this entire terrorist plot was not funded by any external organisation, but rather, the module members themselves collected Rs 2.6 million. Umar contributed Rs 2 lakh, Muzammil Rs 5 lakh, Adil Rather contributed Rs 8 lakh, Muzaffar Rs 6 lakh, and Shain Saeed of Lucknow contributed Rs 5 lakh. Muzaffar and Umar had a dispute over money at Al-Falah University. Umar later gave his red EcoSport car to Muzaffar, which was later recovered in Faridabad. Umar was killed in the blast.

AK-47 purchase and trip to Turkiye

According to media reports, Muzaffar made another significant revelation. He had purchased an AK-47 for Rs 6.5 lakh, which was later recovered from Adil Rather’s locker. He also revealed that his handlers were two people: his handler, Mansoor, and Umar’s handler, Hashim. Both of them were working under the direction of Ibrahim. Three other accused—Muzaffar, Umar, and Adil also travelled to Turkey. They planned to reach Afghanistan from there, but a man named Okasa, associated with the TTP, changed their plans at the last minute.

Training on bomb-making was provided via the internet

The investigation also revealed that Umar, the suicide bomber, used to watch bomb-making videos and read detailed literature online. This module has been operating with considerable preparation for a long time. Its foreign connections, suicide training, fundraising strategies, and locally produced explosives all point to a highly dangerous terror network.
