According to Dr Qamar Cheema, a Pakistani analyst, Pakistan has gained nothing from the border ceasefire with India, as terror attacks have increased in the country since the 2021 agreement, because Islamabad claims it has not received the kind of cooperation from New Delhi it had expected.

India-Pakistan relations: Tensions have surged on the Indo-Pak border in Jammu and Kashmir after the Pakistan Army reportedly violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati Sector on Tuesday. While Pakistan has not issued a comment on the matter, a senior Pakistani political commentator has warned tensions between India and Pakistan are set to increase in the coming days after a brief lull.

‘The Indian Army has talked about infiltration from Pakistan at a time when the Home Minister of India is about to visit Kashmir. Meanwhile, there has been an increase in the commotion in Kashmir, and there have been reports of search operations and arrests in the valley. The Indian Army and Police have also carried out operations in Kathua,” said senior political analyst, Dr Qamar Cheema.

“Something is definitely brewing there (in Kashmir),” Cheema said.

Pakistan gained nothing from ceasefire

According to the analyst, Pakistan has gained nothing from the border ceasefire with India, as terror attacks have increased in the country since the 2021 agreement, because Islamabad claims it has not received the kind of cooperation from New Delhi it had expected.

According to Cheema, some people in Pakistan feel that peace on the border has benefited India, as it gave New Delhi a chance to fix things with China, while Islamabad was sidelined. “There was no dialogue between the two countries on Kashmir or any other issue. Pakistan has been facing continuous setbacks on Kashmir, while the situation in Balochistan and KP is going from bad to worse,” said Cheema.

India blamed for Balochistan, KP unrest

Qamar Cheema also notes that Pakistan blames India for the Balochistan insurgency and the unrest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), which has further deteriorated the trust between the two countries.

“Pakistan believes that India is somehow behind the unrest in Balochistan and KP. Fingers have been pointed towards India in target killings as well. This makes me think that the situation on the border may worsen in the future. India has even increased the deployment of troops on the border. It seems that the firing on the border this week is a sign of things getting worse. I believe that the situation on the border will deteriorate rapidly. Both countries must sit down and engage in talks to deescalate the situation,” he says.

Pakistan violates ceasefire along LoC in Poonch

The analyst’s comments come after Indian Army said it “retaliated strongly” after the Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire by opening fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

“On April 1, 2025, a mine blast occurred in the Krishna Ghati Sector while the Pakistan Army was patrolling across the Line of Control (LOC). This was followed by unprovoked firing and a ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army. Indian Army troops responded effectively. The Indian Army continues to dominate the LoC. The situation is under control,” according to an official statement issued by PRO Defence Jammu.

As per the statement, the Indian Army has reiterated the significance of upholding the principles outlined in the 2021 DGsMO understanding to ensure peace along the LOC.
