India is steadily becoming more self-reliant in defense. The country is now building its own air defense systems, missiles, aircraft, and more. During Operation Sindoor, India showcased several home-made weapons against Pakistan, surprising many countries around the world. One of the key organizations behind this progress is DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) and it has played a major role in making India stronger in defense.

Recently, DRDO chief Dr. Sameer V. Kamat spoke to India TV and shared some important updates about India’s Pinaka Rocket System. Let’s find out what he revealed about it.

Work begins on two deadly versions of Pinaka Rocket

DRDO chief Dr. Sameer V. Kamat shared another major update. He said that DRDO has started working on two advanced versions of the Pinaka rocket system: one with a range of 120 kilometers and another that can strike up to 300 kilometers. According to him, both versions are expected to be ready for induction into the Indian Army within the next 3 to 5 years.

Dr. Kamat also added that India’s artillery capability is now fully self-reliant, and the country can meet all future requirements on its own.

Pinaka is a rocket launcher that can fire multiple rockets at once. It was made by two DRDO labs based in Pune. This system uses modern technology for navigation and control, making it accurate and effective during operations.

The Pinaka MK-1 can hit targets up to 40 km away. The Pinaka II version can reach 60 km, and the latest model, Pinaka MK-II ER, can strike targets as far as 90 km.

DRDO chief Dr. Sameer V. Kamat also shared that India is working on a multi-layered air defence system similar to Israel’s Iron Dome. Right now, India has the Akash missile, QRSAM, and S-400 systems. Work is also going on for the Kusha missile, which will be similar to Russia’s S-500. He mentioned that many such systems will be needed to fully protect the country.
