A 17-year-old boy died, while his friend sustained serious injuries after their two-wheeler crashed into a stationary trailer parked on a bridge in Uran.
The deceased has been identified as Rashmit Yajeshwar Chaudhary, while his injured friend, Sarvesh Janardhan Naik (17), is undergoing treatment. Both were residents of Panvel and were heading to Peerwadi Beach in Uran when their bike rammed into the stationary trailer on the DRT Bridge in Uran.
The accident occurred on February 8, but a case was registered on Friday after an investigation revealed negligence on the part of the trailer driver.
According to the police, the boys were underage, did not have a valid driving license, and were riding without helmets. “We have booked the trailer driver as the vehicle, which had broken down, was parked on the roadside without its parking lights on or any warning signages. The pillion rider suffered head injuries and has undergone surgery,” said Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Misal from Uran Police Station.
Misal further stated that the driver fled the scene after the accident. The boys were rushed to a local hospital, where Chaudhary was declared dead on arrival.
Initially, the police had registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) on February 8, but a detailed investigation revealed that the trailer driver had failed to put up safety signages. Consequently, a case was registered against him on Friday, Misal added.
