Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital has an iconic status, as it has seen many big names entering its corridors, while many stalwarts from different walks of life breathed their last.
Tata To Infuses Rs 500 Crore
In a new development surrounding the famous hospital in South Mumbai, the Tata Group is reportedly set to invest Rs 500 crore in the hospital to improve its infrastructure, according to a report by Times of India.
The Breach Candy Hospital, established in 1946, is run by the Breach Candy Hospital Trust.
This new tranche of funding will make the Tata group Breach Candy’s biggest financial backer.
Change of Guards At Breach Candy
This will further enable the multinational company to expand its footprint in the healthcare sector and the hospital. It is set to add three representatives to the present 14-member board of trustees.

Some of the other big names in the trustees include the likes of RPG Group’s Harsh Goenka, Jamshyd N. Godrej, and Mahindra Group’s Anand Mahindra.
Designed by British architect Claude Batley as a 25-bed hospital, today Breach Candy is a 275-bed multi-speciality hospital, with a reputation of serving some of the biggest public figures.
Ratan Tata, passed away at the age of 86 on October 9, 2024, in Breach Candy Hospital.
The Bigwig Healthcare
This comes at a time when other major corporations have a major presence in the hospitality industry. Reliance owns one of the biggest hospitals, in Mumbai, The Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai’s Andheri.
Meanwhile, the Adani Group also announced its recent plans to put up one of the largest healthcare facilities in Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
In addition, Tata group also owns the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai’s Parel. It also owns the Tata Medical Centre in Kolkata, that specialises in cancer treatment.
