Newer sectors such as 71, 72, 88 and 122 may face reduced supply because the alternate pipeline is slower in releasing water.

Noida Water Supply: Are you a resident of Noida? If yes, then we have an important update for you. Water supply in Noida will be disrupted for the next four days due to ongoing repair work on pipeline leakages in Sectors 63 and 121. To carry out the repair work, the Ganga water supply was closed on Monday June 9, said an official, TOI quoted.

It is important to note that Noida usually gets about 240 million litres of Ganga water every day from the Upper Ganga Canal, which makes up nearly 60 percent of the city’s total daily water need (407 MLD). However, owing to the ongoing report, around 195.8 million litres per day of this supply will be impacted.

“There are leaks in two major pipelines – a 1,400mm one near the green belt in Sector 63 and a 1,000mm line under the service road in Sector 121,” said Devendra Nigam, a senior official in charge of Ganga water at Noida Authority. “To fix them, we’ve shut off the Ganga water supply from Monday, and the work should be completed by 13th June.”

Here are some of the key details:

  • Older sectors like 19, 20, 22, 23, 25 and 27 will not face a complete cut-off
  • Water pressure there will be lower as water is being rerouted through a smaller pipeline.
  • Newer sectors such as 71, 72, 88 and 122 may face reduced supply because the alternate pipeline is slower in releasing water.
  • Noida receives 480 million litres of water daily, which is 73 MLD more than the actual requirement.
  • This extra water comes from both the Ganga canal and underground sources like Ranney wells.
