IMD Weather UPDATE: Skies to mostly remain clear in Delhi, Noida and Gurugram today, temp expected between..., Cold wave warning for...; Check forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that Delhi will have calm and normal weather today. According to the weather office, skies will mostly remain clear, though light to moderate fog may be seen in many areas during the morning hours. The day temperature is expected to be between 21 degree celsius and 23 degree celsius, while the night temperature may drop to between 5 degree celsius and 7 degree celsius. Overall, the weather should be pleasant, making it a good day to step out and celebrate Christmas with family and friends.

In Noida, the IMD has forecast fog and mist in the early morning. Temperatures there are likely to range from around 12 degrees Celsius at night to about 18 degree celsius during the day. For Gurugram, morning fog or mist is also expected, followed by partly cloudy skies later in the day. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 21 degree celsius, while the minimum may be close to 8 degree celsius.

Delhi AQI on December 25

Delhi’s air quality showed a slight improvement on Thursday morning. The Air Quality Index (AQI) moved down to the “very poor” category from “severe” a day earlier, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). IMD has issued a yellow alert in Delhi on December 26 and 27 in view of dense fog at isolated places during morning hours.

Despite the improvement, thick smog continued to cover many parts of the city. Drone footage from Mayur Vihar showed heavy pollution hanging in the air, ANI reported. The AQI in Mayur Vihar stood at 360, which falls under the very poor category. In Dhaula Kuan, the AQI was recorded at 262, which is considered moderate.

Cold wave and fog warning for Bihar, UP, Haryana and other states

The IMD has warned that dense to very dense fog is likely to continue during night and early morning hours in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh till December 31.

Foggy conditions are also expected in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand till December 29, and in some areas of Jammu till December 27. The IMD also said that dense fog may appear in parts of Bihar, Odisha and the Northeast till December 29, and in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and East Madhya Pradesh till December 26.

In addition, cold day to severe cold day conditions are likely in Uttarakhand from December 24 to 26. Cold day conditions may continue in some areas of Bihar till December 28 and in eastern Uttar Pradesh till December 26.

The weather department has also warned of a cold wave in parts of northwest India on December 26 and 27.

Tamil Nadu weather update

Dense morning fog is likely to persist across several parts of Tamil Nadu till December 28.

In a statement, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chennai, said that foggy conditions are expected during the early morning hours over large parts of the state for the next three days, potentially affecting visibility and early-day travel.

Alongside the fog warning, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall at isolated places in coastal areas, north Tamil Nadu, and parts of Puducherry and Karaikal over the next three days. The rainfall is expected to be scattered, with one or two locations in these regions likely to receive short spells of precipitation, mainly under cloudy conditions.
