India whitewashed England, winning the three-match ODI series 3-0 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Wednesday. In the third ODI, India dominated with a massive 142-run victory.
Shubman Gill was the star of the match, scoring his 7th ODI century. He also set a new record by becoming the fastest batter to reach 2500 ODI runs, achieving the milestone in just his 50th match. Shreyas Iyer played a crucial role as well, scoring another solid half-century, helping India put up a huge total of 356 runs.
After the win, BCCI shared a video featuring vice captain Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Axar Patel, where they spoke about the team’s hunger, intent, and preparations for the upcoming Champions Trophy.
In the video, Shubman Gill expressed how special it felt to play in the world’s biggest stadium. He said, “The energy I get from the crowd is amazing. I feed off it, and it gives me a different kind of confidence here.”
Talking about his and the team’s performance, he added, “It feels very satisfying to deliver what I expected from myself and the team. It was a great feeling.”
Shreyas Iyer also shared his thoughts, saying, “Absolutely fantastic to win the series. We all know how strong the England team is and how well they have performed over the years.” He also spoke about his comeback and how he felt after missing out on centuries in the first and third ODIs.
“I felt satisfied to score runs, but I’m not content because I missed out on a hundred in both matches. I hope to get crucial runs in the Champions Trophy because I’m hungry for runs and seeing the ball well.”
“The way everyone contributed in this series shows we are not dependent on any single player” – Axar Patel
Axar Patel reflected on the team’s overall effort, stating, “Cricket is not a game where one or two players can win matches alone. The way everyone contributed in this series shows we are not dependent on any single player. This is a big boost for us as a team going into a major tournament.”
Shubman Gill also highlighted the team’s mindset before the third ODI. “We had already won the series, but great teams don’t want to lose momentum. We talked about treating this match like a series decider and playing with the same intensity for the fans.”
With this victory, India now heads to Dubai for the ICC Champions Trophy, starting on February 19.
