In a shocking incident, a 19-year -old woman’s braid was cut off by a man at Dadar railway station in Mumbai. The incident took place when the girl was on her way to college.
The woman was travelling from Kalyan to Matunga Road and took a special train for women and boarded around 9:29 am. She was walking over a footbridge at Dadar railway station when the incident happened.
The Mumbai central railway police arrested the accused who has been identified as Dinesh Gaikwad. Dinesh (35) is a resident of Chembur and works in a private company.
The victim said in her statement that when she reached the booking counter, she felt that something was pricked around her. She saw a man was hastily running with a backpack. Later, she saw on the ground and found that her hair had been cut off.
She immediately approached the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and lodged an FIR against the man. The police filed a case Section 74 and Section 79 under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
The police arrested the man on Tuesday. They trapped him with the help of CCTV footage. The police have sought a remand to probe the motive behind the act. The victim and accused did not know each other, the police said.
