Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A 20-year-old MBBS student hailing from Ujjain committed suicide by hanging herself at her rented flat under Kolar police station limit late Tuesday night.

No suicide note was found and the reason behind the extreme step taken by the girl student is unclear, police said. Her parents who met her three hours before the incident said she behaved normally.

Police officials said Rimjhim Srivastava, an MBBS second year student at Radha Krishna Medical College, was found hanging in her flat in Drishti City on Tuesday night. Her friends reached her flat when she did not respond despite making several calls on her mobile phone. They broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling. They took her to the hospital where she was declared brought dead. Sub inspector Joginder Negi said flat was searched but no suicide note was found. The body was handed over to her kin after autopsy on Wednesday, he added.

Rimjhim’s father Sanjay Srivastava said she was his only child and was good at studies. She was living in Bhopal for almost one-a-half years and there was no study pressure on her by them. Rimjhim’s parents were in Bhopal on Tuesday and she went to meet them at the hotel where they were staying. The parents claimed that she was behaving normally during the meeting and said she was not coming home on Holi. The student’s family demanded an impartial probe into the incident while claiming that she may be under pressure at the college.
