Former Member of Parliament and Shiv Sena Leader Rahul Shewale called on Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at his residence in New Delhi and demanded the removal of Mughal tyrant Aurangzeb’s tomb from the list of national monuments.
After the meeting, in a X post, Shiv Sena leader said, “The demand for the immediate removal of the tomb of the cruel Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in Khuldabad, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, is gaining momentum across the country. Since this tomb is listed as a protected national monument under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which operates under the jurisdiction of the central government, it has been given protection.”
“Against this backdrop, a delegation met Union Minister of Culture Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum. In the memorandum, a request was made on behalf of the citizens, stating, “Orders should be issued to the concerned authorities to immediately remove Aurangzeb’s tomb from the list of national protected monuments,” he added.
The controversy surrounding the tomb of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj erupted with the release of the Bollywood movie Chhaava, a film based on the life of the great Maratha emperor.
Since then, the demand for the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb has gained momentum. The issue triggered a violent clash in Nagpur, in which one person reportedly died.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Parliament will hold a special screening of the Hindi film Chhaava, which depicts the life of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, at the Balayogi Auditorium in the Parliament library building on Thursday.
