Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, at least 30 workers are feared trapped after a section of an under-construction tunnel collapsed in Telangana on Saturday. According to an NDTV report, the police officials stated that the construction firm has deployed an assessment team to gather more details. The tragic incident occurred in a tunnel behind the Srisailam Dam while workers were inside repairing a leak. While three managed to escape, around 30 others are feared trapped, and rescue efforts are underway to bring them to safety.

Meanwhile, a press release from the Chief Minister’s office, without putting a number, indicated that some persons suffered injuries. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy directed the district Collector, Superintendent of Police and other officials to reach the place of accident to carry out relief measures, it said. As per the directives of Chief Minister, state Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, government adviser on irrigation Adityanath Das and other irrigation officials left for the spot in a special helicopter, it added, news agency PTI reported.

Expressing concern over the accident, Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy enquired about the reasons for it and asked officials to bring out those feared trapped to safety. He also told the officials to provide treatment to the injured (if any), a release from his office said.

The Chief Minister alerted the officials soon after receiving information about the collapse of the roof at the tunnel which injured many people. According to an official statement by the CMO, CM Reddy ordered district Collector, Superintendent of Police, Fire Services Department, Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) and Irrigation officials to rush to the spot and take up relief measures immediately.
