Earlier, uniforms used to be khaki.

New Delhi: Immediately after the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Adampur Air Force Station. During this time, the images of Prime Minister Modi that surfaced showed the S-400 air defense system and the MiG-21 standing behind him. You may have noticed that both the S-400 and MiG-21 are in olive green colour. Similarly, everything in the army, from tanks, mortars to trucks and uniforms, is also in olive green. Have you ever wondered why the Indian Army uses olive green colour so much?

Let’s find out:

Earlier, uniforms used to be khaki. If we look at the history of soldiers’ uniforms, it was mainly khaki coloured until World War II for almost all countries’ soldiers. However, over time, there has been a change, and olive green has become associated with soldiers. You must have seen the uniforms of army officials to soldiers many times. The colour of the combat uniform in the army is olive green, but why is that? In fact, most operations of infantry or military take place in forests and mountainous areas. The olive green colour blends with the trees and plants. As a result, soldiers can hide in these colours in the forests and can also conceal their large weapons.

Because of this colour, their activities are not easily visible to the enemy. That is why most army weapons like tanks, mortars, and air defense are in this colour, making them less visible.

Navy’s white and Air Force

You might be wondering why the uniform in the army is olive green while in the navy it is white. It is to be noted that naval personnel mostly monitor the sea. There are times when their ship enters a blackout situation. In such cases, it becomes much easier to search for sailors due to their white uniforms, as the white uniform can be easily seen against the blue colour of the sea.

If you had closely observed the Air Force uniform, you would have noticed that it predominantly uses navy blue colour. However, in combat situations, their uniform also turns olive green. Generally, it is navy blue.
