Akola Murder: Retired PWD Engineer & Congress Leader Vijay Kaushal’s Brother Brutally Killed Over Old Feud; Chilling CCTV Footage Surfaces |

Akola: In a shocking and gruesome incident, a 60-year-old retired engineer from the Public Works Department (PWD), Sanjay Kaushal, was brutally murdered in broad daylight in the Ranpise Nagar area of Akola. The murder, believed to be the result of an old personal feud, was captured in full on CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity.

The deceased, Sanjay Kaushal, was the younger brother of senior Congress leader Vijay Kaushal. The attack took place around 7:45 pm on Monday near the entrance of Murlidhar Towers, a residential building where both the victim and the accused lived. Kaushal was seated on a chair near the apartment gate when he was suddenly attacked.

Accused Identified As Known Criminal

According to the police, the accused, identified as Mahendra Vishwasrao Pawar, is a known criminal with multiple prior offences. Pawar allegedly approached Kaushal and, following a brief exchange, launched a violent attack using a sharp iron pickaxe. He struck Kaushal repeatedly, both on the head and chest, causing critical injuries that resulted in Kaushal’s immediate death on the spot.

Despite attempts by bystanders to intervene, Pawar continued the assault with extreme aggression. The CCTV footage shows him striking Kaushal multiple times on the head, ignoring pleas to stop. Kaushal’s body was rushed to Akola General Hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead.

Old Enmity Likely Behind Murder

Preliminary investigations suggest that an old enmity between Kaushal and Pawar reignited shortly before the attack. The two had reportedly clashed in the past, and the dispute resurfaced on Monday evening. Within moments of their verbal altercation, Pawar carried out the fatal assault in front of the apartment building.

Police swiftly arrested Mahendra Pawar and are continuing their probe to uncover the exact motive behind the killing. Officers confirmed that the accused was out on bail in another criminal case at the time of the incident.
