Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Redevelopment work of the city railway station would begin from March, said Ashok Kumar Mishra, general manager (GM) of Western Railway (WR) here on Friday. He said tenders had already been approved and the train operation plan was ready. He said that in future, trains would run only from the city railway station while maintenance work would be done at Laxmibai Nagar and Mhow railway stations.
Interacting with the media, he also said that the Indore-Dhar section of Indore-Dahod new rail line project would open for train operations this year. Mishra reached the city in the morning by a special train. After meeting the public representatives here, he left for the safety audit of Indore-Dewas-Ujjain-Nagda railway section by a special train.
During the discussions here, GM Mishra spoke about the current status of the ongoing railway projects of the division. Talking about the railway station redevelopment, Mishra said that the tender had been approved and the agency had also been decided. Drawing-design was being prepared by the agency and work would start by March.
Looking at the future possibilities, he said that Indore railway station was in the middle of the city. It was not possible to maintain more trains here. Therefore, in future, only passenger facilities would be available at the railway station.
A big maintenance depot had been built in Mhow a big coaching depot would be built at Laxmibai Nagar railway station, he said, adding that all the trains running from the city would undergo maintenance there. Mishra said that the work of Indore-Dahod rail line project was going on at a fast pace. MP Shankar Lalwani met Western Railway GM Ashok Kumar Mishra at the city station and discussed railway projects. He told the GM that during the Simhastha to be held in Ujjain in 2028, passengers would also go for Omkareshwar darshan.
