The victim’s mother, reacting to the development, stated that officials of CBI should meet her, saying that trust would come only through direct engagement.

Unnao Rape Case
On Friday, the investigative agency challenged the Delhi High Court’s December 23, 2025, order by filing a Special Leave Petition (SLP) before the Supreme Court. The order suspended Sengar’s life sentence pending appeal and granted him bail.
Sengar, who is the main accused, was convicted in 2019 in the case. The court slapped him with life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 25 lakh.
Even after the bail, Sengar will continue to remain behind bars as he is serving a 10-year sentence in another murder-related case.
The High Court’s ruling has sparked strong backlash from the victim’s family and opposition leaders, increasing demands for the Supreme Court to step in.
