Ubisoft has officially launched Rainbow Six Siege X, and it is now available across all major platforms, including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Amazon Luna. The update brings major improvements to the game and also opens it up for free access. So, new players can join the action without paying upfront.

Just to clarify, Rainbow Six Siege X is not a brand-new game. It is a major update and rebranding of the existing Rainbow Six Siege. Ubisoft is calling it “Siege X” to mark a new chapter for the game.

With Rainbow Six Siege X, new players can try the game for free. They will get access to a selection of operators and can play modes like Unranked, Quick Match, and the new Dual Front mode. However, features like Ranked playlists, Siege Cup, more operators, and cosmetic items will still need to be unlocked through paid editions.

Ubisoft is offering two main upgrade options:

  • Elite Edition ($19.99) – Includes access to all game modes, Ranked playlists, Siege Cup, and 16 extra operators.
  • Ultimate Edition ($39.99) – Offers everything in the Elite Edition, plus all 52 operators and the exclusive Disruptor Pack.

The biggest new feature is Dual Front, a permanent 6v6 mode. This mode mixes Attackers and Defenders, creating a fast-paced battle where teams must capture enemy sectors while defending their own. Players can respawn, switch operators, and complete Neutral Sector assignments during the match.

Ubisoft has also made major improvements to the visuals and audio. Five classic 5v5 maps — Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe — have been upgraded with better lighting, shadows, and resolution. More maps will be upgraded every season.

Gameplay has also been enhanced with new destructible objects like gas pipes, fire extinguishers, and metal detectors. These can be used strategically to gain the upper hand. Rappelling movement has been made smoother, and players can now sprint along walls and around corners while on rappel.

Audio updates are another big highlight. The new sound system makes it easier to track enemy positions using sound cues. Players can now hear more realistic echoes and locate opponents based on the sounds they make.

The developer has also added a fresh onboarding experience for newcomers to help them learn the ropes and improve their skills.
