Rabale police have arrested four individuals, including a minor, for allegedly attempting to sell brown sugar, also called heroin, in the Ghansoli area. The police seized 7.13 grams of contraband along with cash from the suspects. The operation was carried out on Monday evening, and authorities are now investigating the source of the drug supply.
Acting on a tip-off that some youths were selling drugs near Darya Raja Hotel in Sector 15, Ghansoli, the police launched a surveillance operation. Under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Balkrishna Sawant, a team led by Assistant Police Inspector Ganesh Dalvi patrolled the area around 6.30 pm. During the operation, they spotted four individuals behaving suspiciously near the hotel.
The suspects were identified as Mangal alias Rahul Shatrughna Saha (20), Suraj Anant Mhatre (34), Gorakh Baburao Mhatre (38), and a minor accomplice. Upon searching them, the police found 7.13 grams of brown sugar and ₹6,000 in cash.
“During interrogation, it was revealed that the suspects were residents of Ghansoli, Kopar Khairane, and Turbhe Stores and had come to the area specifically to sell the drug. We are further investigating the source of the drugs, from where they got it,” a police officer from Rabale police station has said. The police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the police have taken all four into custody for further investigation.
