Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Resentment is growing among employees over the government’s decision to implement promotions under a set formula. A meeting of officials belonging to the General and OBC categories was held at the Mantralaya on Tuesday to chalk out a plan to express their displeasure over what they allege is the government’s disregard for their interests.

In the meeting, it was decided to stage a peaceful protest by wearing caps at the Mantralaya on Thursday. The protesters will gather in front of the Vallabh Bhawan main gate during lunch hours and stage a protest. A future strategy to oppose the decision will also be discussed

The meeting was addressed by Mantralaya Seva Adhikari Karmchari Sangh President Sudhir Nayak and SAPAKS President KS Tomar.

Notably, the promotion issue of SC ST and General employee’s was hanging in the balance for the last many years. As the matter is currently under the consideration of the Supreme,  the government tried to find a middle path and came up with a promotion formula.

According to this formula, 20% reservation in promotions is to be given to Scheduled Caste employees, 16% to Scheduled Tribe employees, and the remaining posts to the General category. Employee organizations are of the opinion that seniority, rather than merit, should be considered for promotions in the General category.

Nayak stated that in the Departmental Promotion Committee, not even a single person from unreserved category will get promoted to the post of additional secretary, deputy secretary and under secretary.

As per the new promotion formula, only reserved class people will occupy three posts of Additional Secretary, 14 posts of Deputy Secretary and 65 posts of Under Secretary. Henceforth, a situation is being created wherein 100% reserved class employees will hold the posts of Additional Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Under Secretary etc.
