President rule imposed in Manipur after N Biren Singh’s resignation
Imphal: In a major development, the President’s rule has been imposed in Manipur as BJP leadership has failed to pick a name for a new leader for the post of the chief minister of the state. The political crisis has taken place following the resignation of N Biren Singh. The Home Affairs Ministry has issued a notification, informing about the President’s rule in the northeastern state of the country.
“I, Droupadi Murmu, President of India, have received a report from the Governor of the State of Manipur and after considering the report and other information received by me, I am satisfied that a situation has arisen in which the Government of that State cannot be carried on in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of India (hereinafter referred to as the Constitution),” the notification read.
