Preparations are underway at the famous Ramlila Maidan ahead of the oath-taking ceremony of the new Chief Minister of Delhi. News agency ANI has shared visuals from the maidan, showing tents being erected.

According to reports, the BJP Legislature Party meeting will be held on February 19 at 7 PM to elect a leader. After the meeting, party leaders will meet the Governor at Raj Niwas to stake a claim to form the government. The swearing-in ceremony of the Chief Minister will be held on February 20, as per reports.

The BJP registered a thumping victory, winning 48 out of 70 assembly seats in Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party was reduced to 22 seats from 62 in the last elections. The Congress party, continuing its poor performance, failed to open its account.

It has been more than a week since the results were declared on February 8, but the BJP is yet to announce its Chief Ministerial candidate.

However, several names are making rounds on social media as frontrunners for the coveted post. These include newly elected MLAs Parvesh Verma, who defeated AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi seat, Rekha Gupta, Ashish Sood, Kapil Mishra, and others.

In other states, after the assembly elections, the BJP has sprung surprises by selecting low-profile candidates for the Chief Minister’s post.
