Pimpri-Chinchwad CP Vinoy Kumar Choubey Addresses Key Issues, Including Role Of Traffic Wardens And Corruption In Passport Verification, In Virtual Townhall | X/@CP_PCCity

Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey hosted a ‘Virtual Townhall’ on Wednesday. During this session, he addressed several questions raised by the citizens on X (formerly Twitter).

Role of traffic wardens:

Choubey said the wardens are assisting the traffic teams to regulate and manage traffic across our city. “However, their role is strictly to support the traffic officials; they are not authorised to either check the documents or fine a violation on their own,” he added.

Rs 71 lakh collected in fines from private buses

The Pimpri-Chinchwad CP said the cops have collected Rs 71 lakh in fines from 6,013 private buses in the last one month for violating the rules. “Private buses have been ordered to not ply on the roads in places like Pimpri, Chinchwad, Nigdi, Wakad, Sangvi, Kalewadi, Nashik Phata, etc. Their routes have been changed accordingly. Also, no private bus will stop to pick up passengers,” he added.

Action against modified silencers:

Choubey said the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have launched a drive against motorcycles with modified silencers. “All our traffic divisions have been instructed to clamp down heavily on this menace. Action is being taken consistently and will be continued,” he added.

Action against drunk driving:

The CP said the cops are “committed” to prevent hit-and-run incidents in the city. “In the year 2024, strict action was taken against a total of 4,154 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol,” he added.

“Two instances where drunk & drive cases were brought to a logical conclusion, which we believe will set a strong precedent : On 25.03.2025, the court sentenced Dattatray Tipre of Chikhli to a fine of ₹20,000 and four days of imprisonment for driving under the influence of alcohol. The same day, Rajkumar Bharti from Nehru Nagar, Pimpri, was sentenced to a fine of ₹20,000 and three days of imprisonment,” Chaubey shared.

Corruption in passport verification:

An X user alleged that the police demand money for passport verification. Responding to the post, Chaubey wrote, “We have zero tolerance for corruption of any kind at any level. If our personnel has sought money from you for processing of your Passport/PCC, pls report on 8087705112. Anonymity will be ensured. The same number can be used for enquiry regarding your Police Verification status for Passport/PCC.”
