New Delhi: India’s latest stealth missile frigate INS Tushil, that was commissioned into the Indian Navy at the Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia on December 9, is expected to reach the country’s western coast in mid-February. This information was shared by the concerned officials on Sunday, December 29.

INS Tushil is commanded by Captain Peter Varghese and supported by a dedicated team of 250 personnel. INS Tushil will be a part of the Mumbai-based Western Fleet, said the officials.

As part of strengthening the bilateral relations and naval cooperation between India and Morocco, INS Tushil arrived at Casablanca, Morocco on 27 December. Morocco is a maritime nation and like India holds a unique geographical position with coastlines along both the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean.

During this two-day visit, crew of Tushil engaged with the Royal Moroccan Navy personnel at the functional level, host distinguished senior officials and other guests towards furthering naval cooperation, diplomatic ties and fostering goodwill.

Later, both the navies engaged in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) at sea to improve interoperability and share the best practices.

The visit by the Indian warship seeks to further explore avenues for collaboration between both the navies. It may be noted that in the past 12 months, three Indian Navy ships, Tabar, Tarkash and Sumedha visited Casablanca, significantly elevating mutual trust and interoperability.

As the frigate continues its journey towards its home port in Karwar, Karnataka, it will participate in collaborative exercises with friendly foreign navies, further promoting India’s maritime diplomacy with nations in the region.

INS Tushil is armed with a range of advanced weapons, including the BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, Shtil surface-to-air missiles with enhanced range, upgraded medium-range anti-air and surface guns, optically controlled close-range rapid fire gun system, torpedoes, rockets, and advanced electronic warfare and communication suite.
