American Fighter plane: During the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, discussions took place regarding a major defense deal. The US has proposed to supply F-35 fighter jets to India. However, further negotiations are still pending. The F-35 is considered one of America’s best fighter jets. However, on several occasions, Trump’s associates and top businessman Elon Musk have raised questions about this fighter jet. Musk once referred to this fighter jet as “expensive junk”.
The F-35 design was broken at the requirements level, because it was required to be too many things to too many people.

Risk of Crash
The world’s most dangerous stealth fighter jet, the F-35, has crashed multiple times. Each crash costs the USA approximately 83.2 billion rupees. This was the aircraft from America’s most expensive jet programme. Last year, shortly after taking off from Albuquerque International Airport in New Mexico, the US Air Force’s (USAF) F-35 Lightning-2 stealth fighter jet crashed. Previously, a similar fighter jet went missing in South Carolina, which was later found crashed behind a house. Its wreckage was located 96 KM away from Joint Base Charleston in South Carolina.
Features of F-35
The full name of this American fighter jet is F-35 Lightning II. It is a stealth multirole combat aircraft capable of flying in all weather conditions. It is designed for air superiority and strike missions. It can also perform missions such as electronic warfare, espionage, surveillance, and reconnaissance.
Trump offers F-35 to India
There are three variants – the first is Conventional Takeoff and Landing (CTOL), known as F-35A. The second is Short Takeoff and Vertical Landing (STOVL), known as F-35B. The third is Carrier-based, i.e., F-35C. It is manufactured by America’s Lockheed Martin company. The prices of all three variants ranges from 80 to 150 million dollars, which is approximately 694 to 1303 crores rupees.

The maximum speed is 1976 km/h. The combat range is 1239 km. It can reach a maximum altitude of 50,000 feet. It is equipped with a 25 mm rotary cannon with 4 barrels, which fires 180 rounds per minute.
It has four internal and six external hardpoints. Air-to-air, air-to-surface, air-to-ship, and anti-ship missiles can be deployed. Additionally, four types of bombs can be mounted on this jet.
