New Delhi: The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on One Nation, One Election has begun its first meeting. Officials from the Union Law and Justice (legislative department) will brief the committee members. The JPC will examine the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024, which aims to align state and national elections accordingly. PP Chaudhary, a BJP MP and former law minister, is the chairman of the JPC who convened the meeting. The Joint Parliamentary committee comprises of 39 memebers out of which, 27 are from Lok Sabha and 12 are from Rajya Sabha.
