Nepal’s interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki has stated that her administration will not let the country fall into political chaos, as is the case in Bangladesh. However, this is coming at a time when the interim government is facing mounting pressure from all political parties and youth groups to resign.

While speaking at a public event in Kathmandu, Karki was critical of the demands for the government to step down, which she felt were creating a situation of uncertainty and making it difficult for the government to function in a proper manner.
Karki also mentioned the small but vocal groups of GenZ who, according to her, are constantly demanding the resignation of the government. This act of questioning the demands of the citizens raised her question of what the purpose of the proposed resignation will be, and why the government is not given enough time to accomplish its obligations.
She said officials were under continuous public pressure and verbal attacks, which had left the administration swinging back and forth without stability. Karki also raised concerns about a growing sense of doubt among young people about the value of elections, with some openly questioning whether voting still mattered.
Reiterating her government’s pledge, Karki said that Nepal would not take the same route that Bangladesh took. “We understand that there is a huge mental strain on the interim government, and we appeal to the media to responsibly portray the gravity of the situation that the present government is facing,” she said.
