Navi Mumbai: Women’s Day in Navi Mumbai was a grand celebration of the spirit, resilience, and multi-tasking ability of women across different sectors. The city came alive with a mix of social gatherings, community events, health initiatives, and special programs recognizing the contributions of women. Various organizations, from municipal corporations to political parties, came together to honor and empower women in unique ways.

Across the city, women stepped away from their routine responsibilities to celebrate themselves. Hotels and food courts in shopping malls buzzed with energy as groups of women gathered to enjoy the day in the company of friends. Many had planned outings in advance, making reservations to ensure a perfect day out. “It was a ladies’ day out where we decided to treat ourselves,” said Trupti Behel, a resident of Seawoods. “We made advance reservations at a hotel and had a blast spending time with friends” she said

Communities, too, came together in support of women. In Vashi, Tamil Sangam organized a special event where women participated in games and cultural performances. “It was an opportunity for the community to come together. We had ladies singing songs, playing games, and before dinner, there was a felicitation program,” said Mohana Iyer, a member of the sangam.

The day was also marked by a striking visual of empowerment as a bike rally led by women police officers took to the streets. Organized to commemorate a decade of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the rally saw 50 women officers riding through the city, accompanied by Nirbhaya Pathak patrol vehicles.

“As per the orders by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, which completed ten years, a biker rally for women police officers was conducted as part of the International Women’s Day celebration,” said an official from Nerul Police Station.

Health and well-being remained a key focus. In Vashi, a free eye check-up camp organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party ensured that women in need of treatment received the necessary support. Those diagnosed with eye disorders or cataracts were promised free treatment through MLA Manda Mhatre’s initiative.

“The announcement was greatly appreciated as many women will benefit. Additionally, free spectacles were distributed to the needy,” said event organizer Vikas Sorte.

The efforts of women who work tirelessly to keep the city running were recognized by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. “From Safai Doots ensuring cleaner streets to Self-Help Groups driving change in communities, from ASHA workers safeguarding public health to doctors and nursing staff playing a crucial role in Navi Mumbai’s upkeep,” said an official from NMMC.

Women’s Day in Navi Mumbai was more than just a celebration—it was a reflection of the growing recognition of women’s contributions across all fields.
