Washington: A new asteroid named Asteroid 2024 YR4 has been discovered. It was claimed that this asteroid has the highest likelihood of colliding with Earth. Recently, a NASA scientist mapped the trajectory of this asteroid. During this, he expressed concerns that several regions in India, Pakistan, and Africa could be in the path of this asteroid. His warning caused a stir around the world, especially in India where there is heightened concern. Now, NASA has released new information regarding this asteroid, which has significantly reduced the likelihood of it colliding with Earth. NASA has analyzed various new data along with the asteroid’s trajectory.

NASA’s new update report provides significant relief. While other space agencies around the world are still monitoring this asteroid and gathering information. Space agencies continuously analyze near-Earth objects (NEOs), keeping a close watch on asteroids approaching Earth. NASA released this update at a time when the International Astronomy Center (IAC) in Abu Dhabi had issued a warning regarding this asteroid last month.

What did NASA say about Asteroid 2024 YR4?

NASA has estimated based on new information that the likelihood of this asteroid colliding with Earth has become zero. This means there is no threat now. NASA stated that the chance of this asteroid colliding with Earth on December 22, 2032, is only one in 26,000. Meanwhile, the estimate of this asteroid passing by Earth without any damage has now increased to 99.9961%. NASA said that this change in the probability of danger is based on new data regarding the asteroid and new information about its orbit.

The Torino scale rating, which is used to measure the potential threat posed by NEOs, had previously placed this asteroid on the highest threat list, which has now been moved to the zero threat list. This means that 2024 YR4 is no longer dangerous to Earth.

What will be the effects of Asteroid 2024 YR4?

Asteroid 2024 YR4 was first tracked in December 2024. An alert was issued after initial information and data were received. The initial data regarding the asteroid indicated a 1 percent chance of collision with Earth in the orbit calculation. Based on the calculations, it was estimated that the asteroid could collide with Earth in December 2032. Meanwhile, in January, the likelihood of asteroid 2024 YR4 colliding with Earth increased further.
