Reliance Industries Limited (RIL)-owned Mumbai Indians have taken over The Hundred franchise, Oval Invincibles, through their subsidiary RISE Worldwide. This move expands the MI family to seven teams across four continents and five countries in both men’s and women’s cricket.
Oval Invincibles’ men’s team is the current champion and has won The Hundred twice, while the women’s team won the first two editions in 2021 and 2022. The deal, including a 49% stake in Oval Invincibles, is still subject to final paperwork and approvals.
Nita Ambani, RIL director, said, “Cricket is more than just a sport; it unites people globally. Welcoming Oval Invincibles into the Mumbai Indians family is a proud moment.
This partnership expands our MI fan base across India, New York, the UAE, South Africa, and now England. We remain committed to nurturing young talent, building champion teams, and bringing fans closer to the game.”
Akash Ambani added, “We are thrilled to be part of Oval Invincibles, the most successful team in The Hundred. England has a rich cricketing history, and having the Oval as our home venue is special. We look forward to working with Surrey CCC to further elevate the teams, engage with fans, and grow our presence in cricket.”
Surrey CCC Chair Oli Slipper said, “We wanted the best partner to help Surrey lead English cricket, and Mumbai Indians fit that vision. They own the most successful IPL team, and this partnership will bring continued success to Surrey and our Hundred team. Beyond cricket, RIL’s business expertise will help Surrey thrive off the field.”
