Railway Minister Vaishnaw stated that every year, during Diwali and Chhath, the huge rush of passengers traveling to and from Bihar made the operation of special trains necessary.

New Delhi: Indian Railways has witnessed a massive transformation in the last 10 years under the Narendra Modi government. From 100 percent electrification of tracks to modification of platforms, the sector has seen a slew of changes over the past decade. The government has also announced new routes connecting states like Manipur and Jammu and Kashmir. Now, India’s first semi-high-speed Vande Bharat sleeper train is likely to run between Delhi and Patna. Next month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the train.

This new category of train has been designed with advanced facilities, premium catering, and a maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour. Given these features, the fare of Vande Bharat may be 10 to 15 percent higher than the premium train Rajdhani Express. A senior Railway Board official said that the trial run of the Vande Bharat train has been completed, and the train arrived at the Shakur Basti shed (train set depot) in Delhi last week.
