MMRDA leases BKC plot for MPCB’s ‘Paryavaran Bhawan’ to boost environmental governance | X – @MMRDAOfficial

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has leased out Plot No. C-79 in the G-Block of Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) for the construction of its administrative building, ‘Paryavaran Bhawan’ for a period of 80yrs.

The proposal was approved during the 159th Authority Meeting, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and MMRDA Chairman, Eknath Shinde.

MPCB, a statutory body under the administrative control of the Environment Department, Government of Maharashtra, had requested a plot for constructing its office building. As per the MMRDA Regulations, the Authority has granted the allotment for commercial use, recognizing the importance of MPCB’s role in environmental governance. The Plot measures 3,400.59 sq. m. having permissible floor space index (FSI) of 4 with Built-Up Area of 13,602.36 sq. m. The Lease Premium is Rs 468.60 Cr.

MPCB will also be eligible for additional built-up area, subject to conditions outlined in the Government of Maharashtra’s notification dated July 19, 2024. To facilitate smooth financial transactions, MPCB has been granted a flexible payment schedule, requiring 25% of the lease premium to be paid within two months and the remaining 75% within the next ten months.

The approval of this allotment is expected to further bolster infrastructural development in the Bandra-Kurla Complex while ensuring effective land utilization. The move is in line with MMRDA’s vision of fostering a well-planned and sustainable urban environment in Mumbai.

CM Devendra Fadnavis remarked, ”The allotment of land for Paryavaran BHAWAN at BKC is a major step towards strengthening Maharashtra’s environmental efforts with a sustainable approach. This new Administrative office will help MPCB work more efficiently, implement sustainable initiatives, and enhance collaboration with stakeholders.”

Similarly Deputy Chief Minister and Chairman- MMRDA Eknath Shinde said, ”The Paryavaran Bhawan at BKC will strengthen MPCB’s work in environmental protection and improve its efficiency. MMRDA will continue supporting projects that contribute to a greener and more organized Mumbai.”

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Commissioner, MMRDA added, ”Bandra-Kurla Complex is at the heart of MMRDA’s vision to develop it into a premier business and administrative hub, integrating sustainability with growth. The addition of Paryavaran Bhawan further strengthens this vision by bringing a key environmental institution to BKC. With MPCB’s new administrative building, environmental governance will be more efficient, fostering better coordination for pollution control and sustainability. This step reinforces our goal of building a greener, cleaner, and well-planned Mumbai.”
