A group of five to six men allegedly assaulted two Muslim men in North Bengaluru’s Sampigehalli area on Sunday, 22 June. According to reports, the victims were also forced to chant “Jai Shri Ram” by the assailants.
The victims, Zameer, a mechanic by profession, and Waseem, an auto-rickshaw driver, were targeted in the attack.
In his police complaint, Zameer stated that they were travelling to Chokkanahalli via Sampigehalli Main Road when they stopped their auto near an open plot between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm to relieve themselves.
Zameer said that he was approached by five to six unknown men who questioned his presence there. When Waseem asked them the same question, the assailants began abusing and assaulting them.
According to the complaint, Zameer managed to escape, but Waseem was beaten with a stick.
“I managed to escape, but they continued attacking Waseem with a stick. As he shouted ‘Allah’ in fear and pain, they threatened him, demanding that he instead say ‘Jai Shri Ram’,” Zameer said in his complaint, as reported by South First.
Waseem was taken to Yelahanka Hospital by Sampigehalli police for a medical examination before filing a case. A First Information Report (FIR) was subsequently registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, including Sections 126(2), 115(2), 118(1), 299, 352, and 351(2), read with Section 3(5).
