New Delhi: The counting of votes for Ayodhya’s Milkipur seat is to begin shortly. This time, the Milkipur bypoll witnessed 10 candidates in the race, but the real fight is between the BJP and SP. The key contenders are BJP’s Chandrabhanu Paswan and SP’s Ajit Prasad. The stakes are high, particularly after SP’s Awadhesh Prasad delivered a shocking defeat to the BJP in Faizabad during last year’s Lok Sabha elections—just months following the grand inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Samajwadi cheif Akhilesh Yadav has accused the Yogi Adityanath-led UP governments of manipulating the Milkipur bypoll. He claimed that despite repeated complaints, the Election Commission failed to ensure a fair election, prompting him to say the EC was “dead” and should be covered with a “white cloth.”
